AWS, Microsoft Azure, Naver Cloud to improve privacy safeguards in South Korea

( June 12, 2025, 06:35 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Major cloud service providers – Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and Naver Cloud Platform – have been advised by South Korea’s privacy regulator to improve user guidance and accessibility to key privacy safeguards. Following a preliminary inspection, the Personal Information Protection Commission recommended that the companies inform users of additional security features such as access control and two-factor authentication, as well as paid subscriptions for longer log retention and higher abnormal activity detection services. The PIPC findings indicated that while some of these safeguards are necessary to comply with the privacy law, users incurred additional costs to implement security features. The watchdog told the companies to clearly communicate which features require extra costs and subscriptions in their user guides. The statement, in Korean, is attached....
