US judge says BTC-e prosecution not doomed by Russia prisoner swap

By Mike Swift ( June 6, 2025, 23:03 GMT | Insight) -- A federal judge in San Francisco said today that she's not persuaded by arguments from a man, accused of helping to run the criminal BTC-e cryptocurrency exchange, that the charges against him must be dismissed because the BTC-e associate who could exonerate him was returned to Russia in a prisoner exchange earlier this year.The US government’s decision to swap a Russian cybercriminal for an American teacher held in Russia appears unlikely to scuttle the prosecution of a man accused of running a cryptocurrency exchange that bankrolled cyberattacks, despite defense arguments it should kill the case....
