China warns of foreign cyber espionage threats to classified information

( June 6, 2025, 03:33 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Ministry of State Security, China's national intelligence and counter-espionage authority, has flagged data leak risks stemming from foreign espionage network attacks. It cited three cases: the infiltration of a national key laboratory by means of a Trojan email resulting in the theft of confidential documents and sensitive information; a breach at a government agency where a phishing email compromised email passwords and sensitive information; and the compromise of a research institution's office automation system due to outdated vulnerability patches and antivirus software, leading to important data being stolen and resold. The ministry advised against using non-classified information systems or non-classified information devices and called for enhanced counter-espionage training along with timely updates to protection software.The statement follows:...
