China's new measures for online-identity authentication to take effect July 15

Individuals are encouraged to obtain an online-identification number and online certificate, which can be used by Internet services and relevant authorities to verify an individual's identity without explicit registration. The new measures aim to reduce the collection and retention of personal information in Internet services and related regulatory practices, while also lowering the cost burden on Internet platforms to protect personal information.
