After securing support from the Upper House yesterday, lawmakers in the Lower House approved his nomination as the new chairperson of the Personal Information Protection Commission. As the first PPC chief with an engineering background, Tezuka is expected to renew the commission’s efforts to amend the personal-information protection law by balancing data protection with data usage, as digital services evolve with artificial intelligence.
