Chinese AI startup Kimi, Zhipu among 35 apps cited for data-protection violations

The testing found that Kimi gathered personal information without a direct link to its business functions, while Zhipu collected data beyond what users authorized. Other apps under scrutiny, including AI companion and video editing tools, failed to itemize data collection and use rules, routinely acquired personal data in excess of business needs or did not offer mechanisms for users to correct or supplement their information.
