EU lawmakers call for tougher rules to protect children online

The report of a parliamentary committee, published today, said that despite existing provisions in the EU's Digital Services Act it's still too easy for children to access content that they aren't old enough to see. Moreover the report said that the unchecked influence of social media influencers, addictive platform design, and the growing availability of generative AI tools require urgent regulatory attention.EU lawmakers are calling for a ban on the promotion of harmful products and behaviors to minors by social media influencers, as well as stronger and harmonized age verification rules....
