China's Shanghai launches data-security campaign among telecom, Internet firms

( May 16, 2025, 04:13 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Data handlers in Shanghai’s telecommunications and Internet sectors are set to face an annual data-security enforcement campaign, the Shanghai Communications Administration said. Under the new directive, companies must identify whether they hold important data before cataloging it, establish a security management system for data partners and ramp up measures to prevent risks and refine emergency response protocols. In addition, important data handlers in the telecom sector will be required to strengthen the implementation of the Chief Data Officer system.
