South Korea raises cyberthreat alert ahead of presidential election

( May 16, 2025, 02:45 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea raised its cyberthreat alert today, calling for increased vigilance against cyberattacks ahead of and during the June 3 presidential election. The decision was made based on the assessment that institutions need to enhance their monitoring, preparation and response posture against cyberthreats both domestically and internationally leading up to and during the election, according to a notice posted on the website by the National Cyber Security Center under the National Intelligence Service. The raised alert level will remain in effect until the end of June 4. This level is issued when certain networks and information systems experience failures or invasive incidents occur in some institutions, or when there is an increased likelihood of an attack spreading to multiple organizations.
