General insurance agencies face scrutiny in South Korea after data breaches

( May 8, 2025, 02:19 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: UFirst Insurance Marketing and Hana Financial Find, two major general insurance agencies in South Korea, reported personal data breaches that prompted South Korea's privacy watchdog to launch an investigation. The Personal Information Protection Commission announced that the breaches occurred when administrator accounts at the agencies' sales-support companies were hacked. The regulator clarified that while these are financial-company customer records, personal information unrelated to credit assessments falls under the Personal Information Protection Act and will be thoroughly investigated, with strict penalties for any violations found. In addition, the regulator plans to conduct a separate inspection of the integrated-solution providers that connect insurance companies with general agencies.The statement, in Korean, is attached....
