Malaysia publishes cross-border data transfer guidelines

( May 1, 2025, 06:22 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Malaysia has published its new set of guidelines for cross-border data transfers under its amended Personal Data Protection Act. The guidelines, launched by the Personal Data Protection Commissioner earlier this week, clarify when transfers are allowed, such as to jurisdictions with adequate protection, or with consent, contractual necessity, legal proceedings or emergencies. They also state when Transfer Impact Assessments need to be done and specify the responsibilities of data controllers.
