New committee to advise UK regulator on misinformation set up, after delay

The committee will guide the implementation of the Online Safety Act, and discuss how online platforms can implement appropriate systems to curb the spread of false information — but it won't inform decisions on individual content. Lawmakers were told last week that Ofcom needs to work closely with other institutions as it oversees tech platforms’ implementation of media literacy policies.Platforms active in the UK today saw the online safety regulator create a committee to guide its work on preventing misinformation and disinformation, following complaints from lawmakers last week and despite a four-month delay....
