Online platforms can expect focus on algorithms under UK child safety codes

While they will take time to digest the 1,700 pages of guidance issued by the online safety regulator, tighter measures for recommender systems represent one major change from the draft version. Platforms must ensure their algorithms go beyond just protecting children from content already flagged as harmful, and they must adopt a more "precautionary" approach, a senior Ofcom official told MLex.Online platforms will need to introduce extra measures to avoid harmful content being algorithmically recommended to children under the codes of practice unveiled by the UK online safety regulator yesterday....
