SK Telecom offers to replace USIM cards after hacking attack in South Korea

( April 25, 2025, 07:11 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: SK Telecom, South Korea’s largest telecom operator with more than 22 million users, is offering free USIM card replacements to all customers upon request following a hacking attack last week. The company detected suspicious activity linked to USIM card data on April 19 and reported the incident to the privacy regulator. The company said it is working with relevant authorities to determine the cause of the breach and assess the extent of the damage. It raised its fraud detection system to the highest level to block authentication attempts using illegally cloned USIM cards. It is also operating a system to prevent the use of duplicated USIM information on other devices.
