Online platforms in UK must keep children safe through age checks under new codes

( April 24, 2025, 08:08 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Online platforms active in the UK have been given three months to assess the risks their services pose to children under the online safety regulator's much-awaited Protection of Children Codes and Guidance. User-to-user platforms and search engines must prevent those under 18 from seeing suicide, self-harm, eating disorder and pornography content, either by introducing strong age checks, or by ensuring children have an age-appropriate experience on their services. The new codes are Ofcom’s second major milestone in implementing the Online Safety Act, after its illegal harms codes were published last month.Statement follows. Documents attached....
