Florida, 19 other states support firing of PCLOB members

( April 10, 2025, 20:46 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Florida and 19 other states told a US federal court that the absence of any statutory restrictions on the president’s authority to remove members of the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board permits it to resolve this case without reference to constitutional questions about the scope of presidential power. They filed a brief in support of entering a judgment against claims filed by two former Democratic members of the board. “To the extent this court nevertheless finds it necessary to address those questions, core separation-of-powers principles, bolstered by long historical understanding, require that the President have the authority to remove at will officials like LeBlanc and Felten who wield substantial executive power,” they said.
