UK’s Ofcom begins online safety investigation into unnamed suicide forum

Ofcom is investigating the service’s provider as to whether it has failed to comply with requirements to carry out a risk assessment, its duties around illegal content and content reporting and complaints procedures, as well as whether it has accurately responded to a legally binding request for the risk assessment. Ofcom is not naming the forum. Ofcom is putting its new powers to the test with its first investigation under the Online Safety Act, passed 18 months ago. Its target is a suicide forum. The investigation will cover whether the site is fulfilling its duties in handling illegal content, user complaints and also into whether it is complying with the act’s extraterritorial requirements for risk assessments and answering a formal request for information and demanding the risk assessment....
