South Korean travel agency fined by privacy watchdog for massive data breach

( March 13, 2025, 07:13 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Modetour Network, a South Korean travel agency, has been fined 757.2 million won (about $521,000) and issued corrective orders by the country's privacy watchdog for a major data breach affecting more than 3 million individuals. According to the Personal Information Protection Commission, hackers exploited file-upload vulnerabilities on the company's website in June 2024, stealing names, birth dates and phone numbers of users. The regulator imposed the penalties after determining that the company failed to implement proper security measures, retaining customer data beyond permitted periods and waiting two months to notify affected users instead of the required 72 hours.The statement, in Korean, is attached....
