South Korea passes bill tightening privacy rules for global companies

( March 13, 2025, 06:33 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s National Assembly today passed an amendment to the Personal Information Protection Act requiring foreign companies operating in the country to designate their local entities as domestic privacy representatives. Under the revision, the global companies must appoint their local entities as domestic privacy representatives within six months of enactment. Following its passage, the bill will be forwarded to the government for presidential approval and official promulgation before taking effect. The revision will take effect six months after its promulgation, giving companies a full year to comply with the new requirement. The amendment, in Korean, is attached....
