The Personal Information Protection Commission granted the approval with conditions requiring Kakao to implement privacy safeguards for its AI agent messenger service, Kanana, which operates on OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Kakao’s proprietary large language model. The measures are designed to prevent Kakao users’ data from being shared with OpenAI or used as training data for ChatGPT.
