Third-party data breach risks worry New Zealand businesses, report says

( March 13, 2025, 01:14 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: New Zealand companies are concerned about data breaches by third-party providers, for which outsourcing businesses can be held accountable, a report has found. In a statement today, New Zealand’s Office of the Privacy Commissioner said that research by cybersecurity-solutions provider Kordia Group has revealed that 35 percent business leaders in New Zealand are highly concerned about cyberattacks or data leaks coming through third-party suppliers. New Zealand’s Privacy Commissioner Michael Webster said that when an agency outsources services to a third-party provider, “the agency remains responsible for ensuring the data remains secure and used in a way that is compliant with the Privacy Act.” Webster added that businesses need to give more consideration to these privacy issues.The statement by the Office of the Privacy Commissioner follows; and the report by Kordia Group is attached:...
