Tech, pornography platforms receive UK guidance on age verification

( January 16, 2025, 09:17 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Online platforms operating in the UK received guidance today on age assurance from the online safety regulator Ofcom. Self-declaration methods were considered not effective. Publishers of pornography must take steps immediately, while services that allow pornography content to be published must introduce age checks by July 2025. Other social media platforms must conduct a risk assessment by July 2025 to assess whether they will need to introduce age checks to protect minors.Statement follows. Documents attached....
