Energy & Climate - Greenpeace - Dutch state - Bonaire climate litigation (Netherlands)

Greenpeace Netherlands sued the Dutch state over inadequate climate protection for Bonaire, arguing that residents of the Caribbean island faced disproportionate climate risks. In 2026, the Hague District Court found that the Netherlands had failed to adequately protect Bonaire residents through its adaptation and emissions-reduction policies, and ordered the government to strengthen its climate response. The state has appealed the ruling.
