Data Privacy & Security - TikTok - Trump - Tan - Litigation over alleged illegality of Trump's deal to divest Chinese ownership of app (US)

Two investors in social media companies, Zhaocheng Anthony Tan and Garrett Reid, have sued President Trump and US Attorney General Pam Bondi alleging that the deal brokered by Trump to divest US operations of the TikTok app from Chinese ownership violate the federal divestment law signed by President Biden in 2024. Under the law, ByteDance cannot have an ongoing “operational relationship” with TikTok’s severed American operations, the suit argues.
