Data Privacy & Security - Lenovo - Christy - ECPA litigation related to Bulk Sensitive Data Rule (US)

Lenovo is facing a proposed class action claiming it violated the federal Electronic Communications Privacy Act and California state privacy laws by unlawfully intercepting Americans’ online communications and funneling their sensitive browsing data to its China-based parent company*. The class action also claims that Lenovo directly violated the Justice Department’s new Bulk Sensitive Data Rule by knowingly routing sensitive data to a company affiliated with a US foreign adversary.


*Corrected on Feb. 12, 2026 at 16:51 GMT: A previous version of this case file said Lenovo sent the data to Temu.
