Data Privacy & Security – UK Online Safety Act – 4chan – Ofcom
US-based online forum 4chan has been fined by UK regulator Ofcom under the Online Safety Act for failing to respond to statutory information requests. 4chan has refused to pay and is contesting Ofcom’s jurisdiction in the US. The watchdog said the law applies to any service accessible to UK users and continues to investigate 4chan’s compliance duties. The dispute marks the first major cross-border test of the UK’s new online safety regime.
