Data Privacy & Security - Coupang - 2025 data breach affecting 33.7m accounts (South Korea)

Coupang is facing one of South Korea’s largest corporate data breaches after acknowledging on Nov. 29 that a security incident it initially pegged at 4,500 users actually compromised personal information from 33.7 million accounts, effectively the entire active user base of the country's dominant e-commerce platform. The company confirmed that the exposed data includes names, email addresses, phone numbers, delivery addresses and order histories. The incident is now under investigation by the National Police Agency, the Personal Information Protection Commission and the Korea Internet & Security Agency.
