Data Privacy & Security – Apple - UK government – Investigatory Powers Act challenge (UK)
Apple has filed a complaint in the UK Investigatory Powers Tribunal over the government’s use of Technical Capability Notices under the Investigatory Powers Act 2016. The Home Office requested the challenge to proceed in secret, arguing that revealing bare details would damage the public interest or prejudice national security. The tribunal decided that Apple’s challenge over the government's use of this national-security law to reportedly request access to users’ encrypted data won’t be held in secret. Other details of the notice and of the legal challenge filed by Apple remain confidential. The case number is IPT/25/68/CH.
