Antitrust - MAN, Iveco and others - European Commission probe and penalties over cartel in truck market (EU)
After a five-year probe, Volvo, Daimler, Iveco and DAF Trucks were fined billions of euros in 2016 by the European Commission for running a cartel on the market for heavy goods vehicles. MAN Truck & Bus escaped sanctions for having revealed the illegal conduct, while Scania fought charges against it. The decision sparked a slew of litigation in jurisdictions across Europe as customers from logistics and removals firms to industrial groups and truck rental companies. The most prominent jurisdiction is the UK, where litigation funders include Burford Capital and Therium Capital. For Spanish litigation relating to the trucks cartel, see here.
