Data Privacy & Security - Meta Platforms - Enforcement over GDPR legal basis to process data (Ireland)
The Irish Data Protection Commission has taken enforcement action against multiple Meta Platforms companies for their use of the General Data Protection Regulation's "performance of a contract" legal basis. The cases follow complaints by Austrian privacy campaign group Noyb, which alleged that Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp "forced" users to consent to data processing. Meta has appealed the enforcement, and the Irish regulator plans to seek an annulment of an order by the European Data Protection Board telling it to open new investigations into Meta companies.
