Data Privacy & Security - Regulation - Political Advertising - proposed EU rules on targeting of political ads (EU)

The European Commission's proposal for a regulation on "transparency and targeting of political advertising" would create obligations for platforms, political campaigns and intermediary advertising services to clearly label political ads, and to publish information such as who is behind the ad, who paid for it and how much. The proposal would also require political advertisers to their explain online targeting and amplification techniques. Some legislators — as well as the European Data Protection Supervisor — are calling for amendments that would ban microtargeting in political ads altogether.
