Ballinno, a Dutch maker of a football that counts kicks in different languages, has filed provisional measures at the Unified Patent Court against UEFA and tech manufacturer Kinexon, alleging the use of its patented technology during Euro 2024 in a virtual offside detection system used to assist in refereeing.
In the course of proceedings, Kinexon filed a revocation action on May 17, 2024 (ACT_27358/2024 UPC_CFI_230/2024).
On June 3, 2024 the court denied Ballinno’s application (UPC_CFI_151/2024), which Ballinno appealed under number 36389/2024.
Ballinno asked the court to stay revocation proceedings until its appeal against the order to deny the application for provisional measures is decided. On Aug. 5, 2024 the defendants also requested the court to order the provision of a security by Ballinno for costs of the appeal proceedings (UPC_CoA_328/2024).
