Intellectual Property - Mathys & Squire’s access to court documents - Revocation action by Astellas Institute for Regenerative Medicine against Healios KK et al. (EU)

IP law firm Mathys & Squire has been granted access to court documents in the Unified Patent Court revocation action involving Astellas Institute for Regenerative Medicine and defendants Healios KK, Riken and Osaka University. The revocation action relates to regenerative medicine technologies. The litigation, initiated by Astellas, sought to invalidate the patent held by Healios KK, Riken and Osaka University. The case was settled by mutual agreement on July 23, 2024, resulting in the discontinuation of the action. Following the settlement, Mathys & Squire LLP filed a request to access all written pleadings and evidence from the case. The UPC granted this request, noting that once proceedings are concluded, the balance of interests typically favors public access, subject to redaction of confidential information.

The case reference of the revocation action is ACT_464985/2023.
