FTC investigation - Common Sense Media et al - Facebook

Common Sense Media, Campaign for a Commercial Free Childhood, Center for Digital Democracy, and over a dozen organizations filed a complaint urging the US Federal Trade Commission to investigate whether Facebook has engaged in unfair or deceptive practices in violation of Section 5 of the FTC Act and the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act. The complaint is in response to unsealed documents from a 2012 class action lawsuit that Facebook settled in 2016. It claims that the company deceives children as young as 5 into unknowingly spending their parents’ money on in-game purchases on the social network’s platform.
