The European Parliament formally adopted the EU Artificial Intelligence Act on March 13, 2024, wrapping up a three-year legislative process. The AI Act is the world’s first horizontal law governing AI. The law came into force officially on Aug.1, 2024, after it received approval on May 21 from EU governments. Companies must stop using prohibited AI technologies on Feb. 2, 2025, and rules for high-risk AI systems will apply on Aug. 2, 2025. All provisions of the rules will apply on Aug. 2, 2026.
