Financial Crime - Barclays - Qatar Holding - SFO probe into fraud allegations (UK)

The UK's Serious Fraud Office launched a criminal investigation into commercial arrangements made during the 2008 financial crisis between Barclays and Qatar Holding in 2012. The prosecutor has since charged Barclays Plc and four former executives with fraud over two multibillion pound capital raising deals with Qatar Holding LLC, a unit of Qatar's sovereign wealth fund, and Challenger Universal Ltd, an investment vehicle for former Qatari prime minister Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jabr Al-Thani. They were also charged in relation to a $3 billion loan facility Barclays made available to the state of Qatar in the same year. PCP Capital Partners has also brought a 721 million pound civil claim against the bank over its dealings with the Qatari entities.
