Indonesia prepares roadmap to expand data-center investment into eastern regions

( October 21, 2026, 02:36 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Indonesia is preparing a roadmap to expand private data-center investment into eastern regions, focusing on electricity supply, backup connectivity and streamlined permits to support growing demand for digital and artificial-intelligence infrastructure, Digital Infrastructure Director General Wayan Toni Supriyanto said on Tuesday. Potential locations include Sulawesi and Kupang, subject to market demand and infrastructure readiness, he said at Bali Tech Week 2026. The government will coordinate with state-owned electricity company PLN, telecommunications operators, local authorities and investors to assess land availability, power capacity, cooling-water requirements and costs. Wayan also said draft presidential regulations on data centers and subsea cables have been prepared and are entering public consultation. The government aims to reduce the concentration of data-center investment in Java and Batam while ensuring new facilities have reliable connections to national and international networks.Statement follows (in Indonesian)....
