China urges US to withdraw DeepSeek procurement ban, warns of countermeasures

( October 21, 2026, 02:10 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Chinese artificial intelligence company DeepSeek and its affiliates face US federal procurement restrictions that Beijing strongly opposes, China's Ministry of Commerce said in a statement on Tuesday. The ministry was responding to a Monday announcement by the US Department of Homeland Security banning federal civilian agencies from purchasing products and services developed by DeepSeek and its affiliates and requiring their removal from government information systems. The ministry said the measures discriminate against Chinese AI companies under the pretext of national security, undermine fair competition and disrupt bilateral cooperation in AI. It urged the US to withdraw the restrictions and warned that China would take all necessary measures to protect its legitimate interests.Statement follows (in Chinese)....
