Connecticut AG asks utility regulators to probe use of AI over data security worries

( October 13, 2026, 17:56 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Connecticut Attorney General William Tong has asked the state's Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) to open a comprehensive review of how the state's electric, gas and water utilities are using artificial intelligence, given the threats of agentic AI to cybersecurity and privacy. "This proceeding should also examine the data security and cybersecurity practices of the public service companies," Tong and Consumer Counsel Claire Coleman told the utilities regulator. "AI and associated new technologies are rapidly transforming society, and it is critical for PURA, in partnership with the state and the public service companies, to review and establish best practices for AI and data security as part of its obligation to ensure that the utilities provide safe service in a manner consistent with the public interest."Full statement follows. See attached document....
