Anthropic, OpenAI, SpaceXAI, Google face US antitrust claims of slowing AI development
( September 18, 2026, 23:05 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Consumers of artificial intelligence subscriptions filed a US antitrust complaint accusing Anthropic, OpenAI, SpaceXAI, and Google of intentionally slowing the pace at which each of them improves the competing products they sell to consumers. The complaint cites an essay written by Anthropic’s chief executive officer calling for limiting the “rate of unchecked AI progress” to which the other companies expressed their agreement. “The antitrust laws do not permit competitors to decide among themselves that competition is too dangerous. Whether frontier AI should develop more slowly is a question for each company acting alone, or for Congress and the agencies.
