Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses target of criminal complaint in Germany

( August 12, 2026, 08:18 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses are at the center of a German criminal complaint filed on Wednesday against Meta, Ray-Ban, Oakley, and various sellers. According to digital rights group HateAid, the smart glasses – in particular the “Wayfarer” model – are indistinguishable from other models, therefore breaching German law which, the group says, “prohibits the placing on the market of devices that are disguised as an everyday object and intended to film unnoticed.” HateAid calls to ban sales until stronger safety-by-design safeguards are in place.Petition follows, press release attached (both in German)....
