South Korea starts project to develop homegrown AI cybersecurity model

( July 22, 2026, 10:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT on Wednesday launched a project to develop an artificial intelligence foundation model tailored for cybersecurity, reflecting the need for a long-term strategy to address the changing cybersecurity landscape and the rapid evolution of AI technology. The project aims to develop a proprietary AI foundation model that can be deployed across South Korea’s cybersecurity ecosystem by bringing together expertise from the country’s AI and cybersecurity sectors. The ministry will accept applications from companies, universities and research institutes until Aug. 21 before selecting one entity to carry out the project, with the government providing advanced GPU support for 10 months.
