Indonesia, Singapore launch Nongsa-Changi subsea cable to support AI, data centers
( July 21, 2026, 03:07 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Nongsa-Changi subsea cable system linking Indonesia and Singapore is now complete, expanding cross-border digital infrastructure to support cloud computing, artificial intelligence and data center services. Indonesia's Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs said Monday that the cable, which crosses the Singapore Strait between the Indonesian island of Batam and Singapore, was developed by PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia International and BW Digital. It will provide more than 1.6 petabits per second of capacity with latency of less than two milliseconds and is part of Indonesia and Singapore's digital cooperation under the Batam-Bintan-Karimun framework. The ministry said the additional connectivity is expected to strengthen Batam's position as a regional digital infrastructure hub and support investment in hyperscale data centers and AI services.Statement follows (in Indonesian)....
