Malaysia to complete Online Safety Act framework with private-messaging rules
By James Konstantin Galvez ( July 3, 2026, 09:00 GMT | Insight) -- Malaysia is finalizing the regulatory framework underpinning its Online Safety Act 2025 with proposed regulations governing private-messaging features, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil told Parliament on Thursday. The regulations are the last of 10 subsidiary instruments supporting the law and are undergoing public consultation until July 20. Fahmi said the framework would clarify licensed platforms' obligations in tackling harmful content while shifting greater responsibility to service providers.
