South Korea unveils three-year privacy blueprint for AI era
( July 3, 2026, 03:31 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s privacy regulator on Friday unveiled a three-year blueprint consolidating and formalizing its AI-era policy agenda, signaling a risk-based shift in data regulation and possible new legal grounds for AI training on personal data. The 2027–2029 plan by the Personal Information Protection Commission brings together measures to support safer AI data use, including an AI-transformation support center, regional data-use hubs and stronger MyData-based individual control. It also calls for preventive security checks, stronger CEO and CPO accountability, penalty incentives for proactive protection investment and expanded cross-border transfer tools such as SCCs and BCRs. The regulator said the plan aims to balance trusted AI innovation with stronger safeguards as data use expands and privacy breaches become more frequent and severe.Statement is attached (in Korean)....
