Gas stations accused of algorithmic collusion to raise prices in California

( June 22, 2026, 20:57 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Marathon Petroleum, 7-Eleven, Walmart, Albertsons and other gas stations accepted Kalibrate's invitation to collude to artificially jack up gasoline prices in California through an AI-powered tool and rake in supracompetitive profit margins, plaintiffs alleged in a proposed class action. The gas stations entered into agreements to outsource their pricing decisions to the algorithmic tool Kalibrate Fuel Pricing, thereby violating the Cartwright Act. The conduct constitutes an unlawful trust—a combination of capital, skill, or acts by two or more persons to fix, control, or establish the price of a commodity, the lawsuit said. "Kalibrate is a driving force behind this new anticompetitive reality. Kalibrate provides the central nervous system for a conspiracy to extinguish retail price competition among gas stations: Kalibrate Fuel Pricing, an algorithmic, AI-based pricing system that connects directly to gas stations’ pumps and signs," the complaint, filed in US District Court for the Eastern District of California, said.See attached document...
