Canada introduces bill to update national private sector privacy law

( June 15, 2026, 22:31 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary; The government of Canada has proposed the Protecting Privacy and Consumer Data Act, a national private-sector privacy law that would update the 25-year old Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). Bill C-36 would "govern the protection of personal information of individuals while taking into account the need of organizations to collect, use or disclose personal information in the course of commercial activities," while repealing Part 1 of PIPEDA and changing the short title of that act to the Electronic Documents Act.See attached bill text. ...
