UK lawyers could see rules on their use of AI, legal research software

By Frank Hersey ( February 18, 2026, 17:22 GMT | Insight) -- Lawyers’ use of artificial intelligence to prepare court documents could be subject to court rules requiring them to declare use of the technology, depending on the outcome of a consultation by the advisory council for civil justice in England and Wales.Lawyers may have to declare if they have used AI to prepare certain court documents such as statements of case and skeleton arguments which set out evidence on which a court is asked to rely. This would be a step up from guidance issued to judges last fall which considered declarations generally unnecessary....
