UK to launch AI copyright license market as minister says no progress on opt out

More meetings of the AI copyright consultation working groups are due in February, according to the technology minister, and the culture minister said the government has no way forward yet on a mechanism where rights holders could opt out of having their content used for training AI models should the government adopt the approach where content would be otherwise available to AI developers by default.The UK government is launching a pilot for its Creative Content Exchange this month as a way for content creators to sell licenses to their works for use in AI training, lawmakers heard Tuesday from culture and technology department officials. The overall government consultation on AI and copyright issues will get more meetings, and there is still no technical way forward for the government’s preferred option for what it sees as balancing the rights of creators with those of AI developers who need fresh data....
