UK told to tighten facial recognition rules after committee calls for safeguards

( December 18, 2025, 16:46 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Rules for the use of facial recognition tools by UK police forces should be reviewed, a parliamentary committee has told the Labour government, asking it to set clear legal limits on when children can be added to watchlists and to explain how it will respond to new evidence of racial disparities and bias in the algorithm used by UK police forces. In a letter to the government sent Thursday, the Joint Committee on Human Rights called for safeguards to ensure children’s rights are protected and pressed ministers to confirm what steps will follow an urgent inspection of the system.Letter attached.  ...
